Urgent royal safety warning as King Charles and family’s electric cars are at risk of being hacked by terrorists
THE Royals’ electric cars are at risk of being hacked by crooks and terrorists, experts warn.
Both the King and Prince William have been spotted driving £120,000 Eletre SUVs made by Norfolk-based Lotus, which is 51 per cent Chinese-owned.
William and wife Kate are believed to have had one on loan.
Charles is said to be considering ditching his electric Audi after using an Eletre on his summer break at Balmoral in Scotland.
Its self-drive function is disabled in the UK, but the tech is said to be more vulnerable to hackers who could find the car’s location or driving data.
They might even be able to take control of the wheel remotely.
Robert Pritchard, who has briefed ministers and the late Queen Elizabeth on cyber issues, said: “Electric cars are more vulnerable because they have more technology.
“If the car is manufactured by a Chinese firm, then the Chinese government can probably get access to location data.”
A Buckingham Palace spokesman did not want to comment.
