Milton forms in the Gulf, could threaten Florida as a major hurricane
Milton has formed in the Gulf as of this afternoon. It's expected to rapidly organize through the next few days and a hurricane is expected by tomorrow night.
Further strengthening is likely through early next week as the southern Gulf is in an area of favorable conditions, including low wind shear and warm sea-surface temperatures.
The National Hurricane Center is forecasting a major hurricane to make landfall across the Florida Peninsula, near Tampa, on Wednesday.
A cool front, which will give us cooler temperatures later next week, will also keep Milton well south of Acadiana!
