Barbados Royals and Oman Cricket unite to boost women’s cricket
The Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club and Oman Cricket have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at promoting and developing women’s cricket in the respective territories as well as the West Indies.
The agreement sets out a strategic partnership designed to create pathways for female cricketers, coaches, and administrators and aims to encourage knowledge exchange and boost opportunities across both regions.
This landmark partnership will see the two organisations collaborate on joint training programmes, player exchange initiatives, development camps, and international tournaments. These initiatives aim to provide female cricketers with vital exposure and experience on the global stage.
Roland Butcher, President of the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club, hailed the agreement as a significant step forward for the club and the sport. “This MOU is a pivotal moment for the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club. By partnering with Oman Cricket, we have a unique opportunity to share expertise, learn from each other, and create meaningful opportunities for our players. This collaboration is not just about Barbados or Oman, but about driving the global growth of women’s cricket and inspiring the next generation,” Butcher said.
Echoing this sentiment, Pankaj Khimji, Chairman of Oman Cricket, emphasised the importance of the partnership in Oman’s vision for expanding women’s cricket. “We are excited to be joining forces with the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club in what is a groundbreaking partnership for women’s cricket,” Khimji said.
He added “Oman Cricket is deeply committed to the development of the women’s game, and this agreement aligns perfectly with our goal of broadening its reach. Together, we will provide invaluable opportunities for our female cricketers, and this collaboration will play a key role in the global growth of the sport.”
The partnership is expected to begin with a series of exchange programmes and training camps in the coming months, with both organisations ensuring the initiatives are inclusive, sustainable, and impactful. This MOU also follows Oman’s Men’s T20 World Cup squad visit to the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club in May, which formed part of their pre-tournament training camp. (JC)
