Italy’s Gabriele Frangipani is determined to secure a spot on the 2026 Olympic team in Milan. He kicked off his 2024-25 season with a personal best in the free skate at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, earning the silver medal.
Following his strong showing in Germany, Frangipani sat down with us to share his insights and walk us through his experiences at his first event of the season.
This summer he stated he worked as “hard as ever before in his life.” We learn how a typical, intense training day during the off season looked like for Frangipani.
His goal is clear: qualifying for his home Olympic Games in Milan 2026 in a tough and challenging field of Italian men.
As such, his long-time choreographer and mentor, Benoit Richaud, developed a new strategy for his student for the upcoming season. With consistency over risk, they plan to underline and even improve Frangipani’s strong results of the 2023-24 season where he came in fourth at the European Championships in Kaunas.
Overall, the four-time Italian national medalist is clear about what drives him forward: “I want to win!” he boldly states. He is currently scheduled to compete next at Skate Canada and NHK Trophy.
Frangipani and Richaud created two new programs for the 2024-25 season which both have a special meaning for the 22-year-old from Bolzano. We learn about the background of both new programs in this interview. The skater also opens up about his personal development on and off the ice. After challenging times, he has now reached a point in his life where he manages to focus on the positive moments.
