'Literally insane': MSNBC host pounces on Trump shooting claim
A claim by Re[publican Party vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance that Donald Trump "took a bullet for democracy" drew no small measure of contempt on MSNBC Sunday morning.
At a Saturday rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where an attempt was made in July on the former president's life resulting in him being grazed on the ear by a bullet, Vance ranted to the crowd, "First, they tried to silence him. When that didn't work they tried to bankrupt him. When that didn't work, they tried to jail him and, with all the hatred they have spewed at president Trump, it was only a matter of time before somebody tried to kill him."
He also asserted that the wound to Trump's ear was equivalent to "taking a bullet."

On MSNBC's "The Weekend," co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend jumped all over Vance's overly-dramatic claim.
"I'm just disgusted by that soundbite, " she said after watching a clip from the rally. "Because Donald Trump did not take a bullet for democracy. Like democracy didn't require that he be shot, right? Democracy did not require an assassination attempt."
'I think perhaps we have different definitions of democracy – it didn't have to happen, " she added, "And I think we can all join in saying we are glad that the former president is okay and is here. So like this bullet for democracy mess is like literally insane."
