Queen’s Park 0 Hibernian 7

Queen’s Park bowed out of the Sky Sports Cup in the second round after a 7-0 defeat at Ochilview Park against Hibernian.

Craig Joyce made four changes to his side following the 6-0 home defeat in the league to Motherwell with Captain Abby Callaghan, Jordan McLintock, Mille Paton and Ami Robertson in place of Ellie Kane who was back on the sidelines and Nicole Cairney, Chloe Muir and Megan Quigley were named on the bench.

The hosts were the first to threaten via a great run from Millie Paton down the right-hand side but her cross was unable to reach anyone in the middle.

Hibernian found themselves with their first chance of the game with a corner in the third minute. The short corner was unable to find a purple shirt in the box and in the scramble to gain possession Hibernian won another corner. The second attempt was whipped in by Poppy Lawson but her shot went across the line and away for a goal kick.

Tegan Bowie got on the end of another threatening Hibernian cross but her first touch let her down and made it easy for Lauren McGregor to collect.

Moments later, Kathleen McGovern was set to head home but Ciara Bonner’s block sent it behind for an unthreatening corner.

The Spiders managed to get back on the front foot courtesy of Olivia King who did well to pick up a loose ball in midfield. Unfortunately, in her attempt to drive the ball forward found her next pass being intercepted to end the attack.

Queen’s Park continued to mount on the pressure with Ami Robertson’s great ball over the Hibernian defence but it couldn’t find Abby Callaghan in time to capitalise. Again, in the fifteenth minute, Olivia King whipped a good ball towards Robertson but Hibs keeper Erin Clachers was there to collect it first.

Linzi Taylor broke the deadlock after 21 minutes of play by scoring on the rebound after her initial shot was saved well, but not held, by Lauren McGregor.

The visitors came close again eight minutes after the first but Stacey Papadopoulos’ brilliant strike was well-saved by McGregor.

However, Kathleen McGovern found her side’s second by slotting home a pin-point pass from Tegan Bowie out wide.

Kirsty Morrison looked to extend their lead almost immediately but a great block from Hannah Cunningham denied the 23-year-old striker.

Hibernian found a third before the break and Kathleen McGovern doubled her personal tally after her well-guided header hit the back of the net.

Queen’s Park had the final chance of the half with Ami Robertson’s strike with the last kick before the whistle but it found the keeper.

Half Time: Queen’s Park 0-3 Hibernian

Hibernian sought out their fourth in the first five minutes of the half but despite being through on goal Stacey Papadopoulos didn’t have time to convert before Lauren McGregor rushed out to sweep the ball away to end the attack.

Hibernian managed to find their fourth after Michaela McAlonie ran through 1-on-1 with McGregor before laying it off to McGovern for an easy finish to complete her hat-trick.

The visitor’s fifth came via a cross in from Tegan Brownie to Lauren Donan-Barr who had plenty of time to control the ball for a collected finish on her birthday.

Constant pressure from Hibernian meant they looked to capitalise again but Abbie Ferguson’s cross was intercepted by Millie Paton who did well to muscle her way into possession before clearing effectively.

Grant Scott’s side made it six with just over fifteen minutes left to play in the match. Eilidh Adams was there to knock in the rebound after Michaela Alonie’s thunderous strike from 35-yards out rattled the crossbar before finding the striker’s feet.

Hibernian found goal seven two minutes later and Adams doubled her tally with a header into the back of the net.
