Dog attacks Albany officer during assault arrests

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- An officer of the Albany Police Department was injured in a dog attack on Saturday while arresting two people for assault. Police said Shabrel Rollin, 28, of Albany, and Barry Walker, 39, of Albany, were both charged with third-degree assault, among other charges.

Police responded to the 300 block of Orange Street around 10:20 p.m. for a reported assault. Police investigations accuse Rollin of punching her neighbor in the face during a physical altercation, resulting in swelling and bruising of the victim's face.

According to police, while taking Rollin into custody, her Pit Bull attacked the officer, biting him in the upper thigh. Police said the dog was shot in the shoulder by the officer's partner and was later pronounced dead.

Additionally, police said Walker is accused of strangling a woman, causing her to fall to the ground. It's alleged that Walker then began hitting her in the face, causing swelling and bruising, law enforcement said.

The officer bitten by the dog was treated on the scene and at Albany Medical Center for puncture wounds. Rollin and Walker were arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on Sunday morning, with Rollin released and Walker remaining in Albany County Jail.
