Huge explosion rips through Scots home as public told to avoid the area

AN explosion has ripped through a home in Alloa sparking a major emergency operation.

Emergency crews were scrambled to the scene on Kellie Place in the town after the blast around 6pm.

Several roads have been locked down amid the ongoing incident.

Locals have been urged to avoid the area by police.

The fire service has scrambled multiple crews to the scene.

A heavy rescue unit and urban search and rescue teams have also been deployed.

Several streets around the damaged house were sealed off with officers standing guard. 

Fire crews could be seen working on the ground near the blast site and were inspecting the building using a turntable ladder. 

Gas engineers and staff from Scottish Power are also on the site and could be seen checking electrical boxes in nearby streets. 

A short while later a team were using a jackhammer to dig up the road a short distance away from where the blast occurred.

Shocked locals watched on and were asking cops for information. 

Brian Alexander, 45, a care worker who lives on the street said: “I was at home watching the television and then there was an almighty bang. 

“I knew right away it was something serious and not fireworks. 

“When I went to have a look the house down the street was missing the roof and part of the front was hanging off. 

“It is quite scary. 

“We cannot get into our homes just now.”

Police close more roads around blast scene

COPS have closed down the A907, B9096, Kellie Place and Tullibody Road after the explosion.

They have also closed:

  • Ochil Street from Tullibody Road
  • Marr Place from Tullibody Road
  • Claremont from Fenton Street
  • Parkway from B9096
  • B9096 to Mars Hill roundabout

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6pm on Sunday, 6 October, 2024, police received a report of an explosion and a fire at a house in Kellie Place, Alloa.

“Emergency services are on the scene and we would ask the public to avoid the area.

“Several roads are closed, including the A907, B9096, Kellie Place and Tullibody Road.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We are currently in attendance at this incident alongside emergency service partners.

“Operations Control mobilised a number of resources at 6.00pm on Sunday, 6 October, after we received multiple reports of an explosion and a fire within a house on Kellie Place, Alloa.

“Specialist resources including Urban Search and Rescue units and a heavy rescue unit are in attendance.

“Police Scotland is asking the public to avoid the area.”
