Deadly explosion kills 2 Chinese, injures 10 near Karachi Airport, Pakistan
Pakistani media have reported that at least two people were killed and 10 others injured following an explosion near the international airport in Karachi, Pakistan.
The Express Tribune newspaper reported that the incident occurred on Sunday night, October 6, after a fuel tanker explosion.
Two Chinese nationals were killed in an explosion near Karachi’s international airport on Sunday night, in what the Chinese embassy in Pakistan called a “terrorist attack,” according to Reuters.
Zia ul Hassan Langer, the Sindh provincial minister, stated that the explosion was likely caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the roadside.
According to Pakistani officials, the vehicle of foreign nationals was the target of this attack.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group, claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that several Chinese citizens were killed in the attack.
In recent months, armed attacks have surged in various parts of Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
According to statistics from the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies, 74 people were killed and 166 others injured in armed attacks across the country in August of this year.
The Balochistan Liberation Army is a separatist group that seeks independence for the Balochistan province in southwestern Pakistan.
The recent increase in attacks has further intensified tensions in the region, leading to greater concerns over the safety of foreign nationals and the security situation. Efforts to stabilize the area continue, but the recurring violence poses a significant challenge to peace initiatives.
