WALKING in on your husband with another woman can feel like the end of the world but one wife’s experience left her feeling more disgusted than betrayed.
The woman recalled how the circumstances surrounding her husband’s infidelity left her physically ill.
In a Reddit post, the unnamed woman recounted the situation as she sought out advice.
She explained that she and husband had been married for two years and together for five.
Their marriage had been without drama until one night the poster decided to go out with a friend, planning to stay at her house.
She said her husband “didn’t want to be alone all night, so he said he’d just go hangout with his step-sister.”
According to the Redditor, her 30-year-old husband and his 24-year-old step-sister have “always been close.”
“Their parents got married when he was 10 and she was four,” she explained.
The step-siblings went to a local bar for drinks before returning to the couple’s home.
After the poster began to feel unwell, she decided to return home early.
“I was not expecting to walk in on them having sex on the couch,” she said.
The woman recalled how disgusted she felt by the act between who people who “consider themselves as full siblings.”
“I literally threw up on the floor by the front door,” she wrote.
“It makes me kind of sick that they’ve been in each other’s lives since they were young and could actually do this.
She described their behaviour as “really disturbing” before revealing that she is divorcing her husband.
While the step-siblings insisted that they were drunk and “it kind of just happened,” the poster said she didn’t believe them.
After her husband’s step-sister admitted that they first had sex when she was 17, the Reddit user decided to tell her in-laws.
Laws on having having relationships as family members
The Sexual Offences Act 1956 prohibits relations between a person and their grandchild, child, sibling, half-sibling, or parent.
However, step-siblings can marry in the UK if they are both aged 21 years or older.
Stipulations state that the younger of the couple must not have, before turning 18, lived under the same roof as the older of the two.
The younger must also not have been treated as a child of the older person’s family.
First-cousins, over the age of 18, can legally marry in the UK without their parents consent.
“I felt like they needed to know, and [should] deal with it however they choose,” she explained.
“They still seem to be in denial a little bit, I don’t blame them though.”
The woman said that she has now gone no contact with her ex but would eventually have to deal with him over their shared house.
