From simple, cost-effective measures to more substantial upgrades, there are numerous ways to maintain a snug and inviting atmosphere in your home.

Whether you’re looking to maximise the efficiency of your heating system, seal draughts, or explore alternative heating solutions, a few thoughtful adjustments can make all the difference.

And one property expert has shared 10 hacks to keep your house warm this winter – including £6 buy to make your radiators more effective.

The bloke, who is known as @thatpropertyguy on TikTok, shared a video on his social media page explaining his super savvy tricks.

He says: “It’s getting a bit chilly, so here’s 10 hacks to keep your house warm in 30 seconds.

“Bleed your radiators to make them run efficiently.”

By doing this, it ensures your radiators are working properly so your house can heat up quickly.

You can do this by first turning off the heating and the radiators are cool to the touch.

Then you’ll need a radiator key (or a flathead screwdriver for some models) to open the bleed valve.

Place a cloth or small container beneath the valve to catch any drips. Insert the key into the valve and turn it counterclockwise. You should hear a hissing sound as the air escapes.

A major tip is to bleed the radiators to ensure your heaters are working effiently

Once water starts to trickle out steadily, close the valve by turning the key clockwise.

After bleeding, check your boiler’s pressure gauge. You may need to top up the pressure to the recommended level.

The property expert continues: “Speaking of radiators, use reflector foil to reflect heat back into the room.”

These can be bought from Amazon and cost £6.29.

He continues: “Use thermostatic valves if you haven’t already.

“Program your thermostat so you’re not wasting heat throughout the day. Shut blinds and curtains to help keep the heat in.

“Move furniture away from radiators to stop them absorbing heat. If you’re up to it, install some insulation.

“Stop cold air from coming in by installing draught proofing around windows and doors.

“A rug will keep your feet warm if you’ve got hardwood or tiled floor.

“And turn the oven off when you finish cooking, but leave the door open. And as a bonus, don’t forget to double up your socks.”

How to dry wet washing inside, in winter

Drying rack or airer

Load up your airer with wet washing and place near a heat source – like a radiator or direct sunlight – to help distribute air around your clothes.

Dehumidifier

Plug in a dehumidifier in a room with clothes hanging to dry quickly and prevent dampness and mould. Many now have a laundry setting.

Tumble dryer

A tumble dryer can heat moisture out of wet washing, saving time and can be used in any weather.

Heated airer

Many brands and shops now sell heated airers for as little as £30. The racks heat through electricity and can speed up drying time.

Open a window

Choose a spare room or unused room for keeping your washing and crack open a window, but close the door behind you.

Using curtain poles

Hang wet washing on radiators then hook them onto curtain poles with radiators below. The heat will rise and dry the items. Alternatively, if you have a shower curtain pole, hang your clothes in the bathroom with a window open.
