Tottenham could be looking for another striker

Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich on the cusp of the 2023/24 Premier League season left Ange Postecoglou with little time to bring in a replacement to spearhead his attack.

The January window also came and went without a fresh face in attack, with Heung-min Son asked to play the central role while Richarlison played a bit-part role amid his injury issues.

Tottenham’s signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth earlier this summer saw the club finally go someway to fill Kane’s void, and according to reports, they are considering bringing in another forward.

Spanish news outlet Sport have credited Tottenham with interest in Lille’s Jonathan David, however, the Canadian is also said to be on the radars of Barcelona and Newcastle United.

The report claims Barcelona, Tottenham, Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United, Juventus and Inter Milan all have David on their striker list for potential 2025 signings.

A number of clubs are reported to have contacted the representatives of the striker, with Barcelona concerned there’s ‘even more limelight’ on the 24-year-old after he scored the winner from the penalty spot in the Champions League clash against Real Madrid in midweek.

Jonathan David is a wanted man

With David’s contract with the Ligue 1 side set to expire at the end of the season, it is no surprise that a number of clubs are currently circulating for his signature.

Whether Tottenham would be prepared to attempt to land David on a pre-contract agreement in the January window could depend on their plans for Richarlison in the summer.

Richarlison was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier this year but remained at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium instead.

There is no doubt that Tottenham need alternative options and cover for Solanke if the club wish to compete on multiple fronts, and unfortunately, Richarlison’s Tottenham injury record has been a problem.
