Patriots Safety, Team Captain Arrested for Assault and Drug Charges

New England Patriots safety and team captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested Saturday in Braintree, MA, and faces multiple charges including assault, battery, and possession of drugs.

News of the arrest broke early on Monday after Peppers was notably missing from the Patriots' 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

According to the Braintree police, officers received a call from an individual Saturday morning reporting an altercation between two people. It is reported that upon the police's and paramedics' arrival, the alleged victim was treated at the scene.

Peppers is expected to be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court in Massachusetts.

After the news broke Monday the Patriots released a short statement addressing the issue. “We are aware of the incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comments at this time," the team said.

Later that day, head coach Jerod Mayo sat down with reporters at sports radio WEEI saying "He called me that morning. I knew what was going on. We've informed the NFL what was going on and we're still gathering information."

When asked if Peppers was still on the team as of now, Mayo said it was too early to tell. "I don't think anyone knows the facts or anything like that. It's a process," he said.

Peppers has been with the Patriots since 2022 and was just named team captain at the beginning of this season. Prior to his time at New England, Peppers played for the Browns as a first-round pick out of the University of Michigan in 2017.
