'Of course!' Harris tells '60 Minutes' interviewer she's shot her Glock

Vice President Kamala Harris owns a Glock and she wants everyone to know she’s shot it, too.

“I have a Glock, and I’ve had it for quite some time,” the Democratic nominee told CBS News host Bill Whitaker in a “60 Minutes” interview Monday night. “And I mean, look Bill – my background is in law enforcement, so there you go.”

Harris’s statement comes as she seeks to swat suggestions from former President Donald Trump that the Democratic nominee would “confiscate your guns,” NPR reported. The publication notes that Harris is still a proponent of strict gun laws.

But Harris' stance on gun rights didn’t stop her from setting the record straight on her gun ownership, which has received scrutiny since the vice president was elevated to the top of the ticket when President Joe Biden exited the race this summer.

“Yes, of course I have,” she said with a laugh after Whitaker asked if she’s ever fired her gun. “At a shooting range. Yes, of course I have,” Harris said.

Harris emphasized during the sit-down interview that aired Monday night that her remarks about owning a weapon are “not the first time I’ve talked about it.” But her acknowledgment of her gun of choice, seemingly for the first time publicly on the campaign trail, prompted mixed reactions on social media.

“I don’t believe it,” wrote David Hookstead, a reporter for OutKick, on X. “I’ll donate $100,000 to her campaign if she beats me in a shooting drill at a range of her choice with her Glock.”

Conservative activist Steve Guest posted a clip of the video and remarked: “REMINDER: Kamala Harris wants to take guns away from normal Americans and yet…”

The exchange about Harris’ gun ownership was later posted by her campaign and other users supportive of the Harris-Walz ticket.

Trump originally agreed to the traditional “60 Minutes” candidate interview, but ultimately backed out and did not appear.
