Oasis fans splashing out on reunion tour tickets are giving economy a huge boost
OASIS fans splashing out on comeback tour tickets helped send the economy Supersonic last month.
Spending on entertainment including concerts soared to a 14-month high as ten million punters tried to bag a prized spot at the Gallagher brothers’ shows.
Manchester pair Noel, 57, and Liam, 52, will reunite after 15 years for 17 gigs next summer.
Tickets sold out in hours, with both brothers tipped to rake in £50million.
The record demand gave the economy a 14.4 per cent boost in entertainment spending, figures from Barclays show.
It follows controversy over “dynamic” pricing, with ticket costs rising as demand soared.
Both Oasis and sales site Ticketmaster were panned by fans, including TV host Dan Walker, after £150 standing tickets for Wembley gigs rocketed to £350.
Meanwhile, the Barclays survey revealed supermarkets were also on song — as discounts and the start of the school year triggered a 1.1 per cent rise in spending.
But cigarettes and alcohol took a hit — as takings at pubs and bars declined by 0.6 per cent after the summer holidays ended.
Cinemas were rocking with 18.2 per cent growth, thanks to blockbusters such as Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine.
Barclays’ head of retail Karen Johnson said shoppers remain cost-conscious though many “are also finding room for treats and little luxuries”.
