Mum ADMITS guilt over death of two-year-old daughter who was found locked in bathroom in pushchair – but denies murder
A MUM has admitted causing or allowing the death of her two-year-old daughter who was found locked in the bathroom in her buggy.
Isabella Rose Wheildon’s body was discovered in a temporary housing unit in Ipswich on June 30 last year.
The two-year-old died sometime in a four-day period leading up to the tragic find.
Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, 24, has now pleaded guilty to causing or allowing her daughter’s death in relation to cocaine and cannabis.
But the mum will stand trial for murder after denying that charge at Ipswich Crown Court.
Her ex-partner Scott Jeff, 24, pleaded not guilty to all the charges and will go on trial alongside Gleason-Mitchell today.
Isabella was discovered in her pushchair inside a locked bathroom by a paramedic.
An inquest heard a post-mortem exam failed to establish a cause of death with further tests required.
A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) regarding previous contact Norfolk Police had with Isabella.
Speaking last year, an IOPC spokesperson said: “We have received a mandatory referral from Norfolk Police regarding contact officers had with the deceased in the weeks prior to her death.
“We are currently assessing the referral to determine whether further action may be required from us.”
The trial, which is set to last for up to eight weeks, is expected to open today.
