Rudiger names Spurs cult hero as the most underrated player he has ever faced
Antonio Rudiger names a former Tottenham star as the most underrated player he has ever come across and there are no prizes for guessing who it is.
Tottenham’s former midfield phenom
Rudiger has come up against numerous world-class players, with his career spanning across the Bundesliga, Serie A, the Premier League and La Liga.
However, the former Chelsea man did not take long to name Mousa Dembele as the most underrated player he has come up against.
The former Tottenham midfielder was a key part of the Mauricio Pochettino revolution in North London, with his departure in January of 2019 coinciding with the team’s dip in form, which eventually ended in the Argentine’s sacking later the same year.
Rudiger lavishes praise
Rudiger admitted that Dembele was like an unpassable wall in the middle of the park, raving about his strength and ability to keep the ball in tight areas.
He suggested that the former Tottenham man was good enough to play for the best sides in world football.
When asked about the most underrated player he has faced, the Real Madrid star told The Inside Scoop podcast: “Mousa Dembele from Tottenham Hotspur. Wow, wow. This guy, no disrespect to Tottenham, but I don’t know how he didn’t play for a higher club.
“I really don’t know how because he had everything. I’ve never seen someone as strong as him. He was like a wall. And technique – poof! He didn’t know the pressure. You can pass him the ball and two men can be behind him – no problem!”
Dembele has left a mark
While one can argue that Dembele underachieved in his career, given his talent, there is no doubt that he left a major mark on all of the players he has played with and against in his career.
Every single one of his Belgium and Tottenham teammates raves about the midfielder while his opponents also speak about him like he was a freak of nature.
