Mujiv Hataman runs for Basilan governor against nephew

ZAMBOANGA, Philippines – Basilan Representative Mujiv Hataman and his nephew will square off with his nephew in the 2025 elections.

Lawyer Jimael “Jay” Salam Hataman Salliman, a member of the provincial board, filed his certificate of candidacy for Basilan governor on Monday, October 7. His father is Mujiv’s brother, Governor Jim Salliman, who is running for vice governor.

Mujiv, the last governor of the now-defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), and Jim are serving their third and final office terms. Mujiv filed his COC on Tuesday morning, October 8, saying his candidacy would give Basilan’s voters choices.

Jay is running for the province’s top post with the support of the administration Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), the political arm of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). 

Meanwhile, Maluso, Basilan Mayor Hanie Bud has also filed his certificate of candidacy for congressman.

In Sulu, members of the Tan family have decided to trade places. 

Vice Governor Toto Tan filed his COC for Sulu governor before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Patikul on Monday, a seat that would be vacated by his father Abdusakur Mahail Tan in 2025.

Abdusakur filed his COC for vice governor and his other son, Representative Samier Tan, filed for reelection. – Rappler.com
