'They took my child from me': family seeks answers in death of 34-year-old Eunice man
EUNICE, La. (KLFY) -- The family of a 34-year-old Eunice man who was killed over the weekend said they will do whatever it takes to get justice for their loved one.
Markeis Leday died after being injured in a shooting early Sunday morning.
According to Eunice police, the shooting was reported around 3 a.m. in the 200 block of Hill Street. When responding officers arrived, they found Leday lying in the road next to a vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but died from his injuries.
Leday's family members, who asked to remain unnamed, said they want justice for Leday's death.
His mother said the news of her son's death "took me for a loop."
"They took my child from me and I want justice for this. My baby did not deserve to get done what happened to him," Leday's mother said.
Leday's sister says the family will remember Leday as a family man who brought joy to everyone he encountered.
"He was a loving person. I'mma miss him... the love of joy, the memories, that's all we have left of him," Leday's sister said.
Leday's sister said she and the family will not rest until his killer is found.
"We just hope the suspect will be catched. I will do whatever it takes to get justice served. This is something I will not sleep on", the sister said.
