There has been no official announcement made by the Cavaliers, as of writing. Bates’ Instagram story suggests this is not a new injury but rather something that has been bothering him for an undisclosed amount of time.
“Surgery went good,” Bates shared on his Instagram story. “Had a slight tear in my meniscus for a min, gone be back stronger than ever.”
Bates spent most of his rookie season with the Cleveland Charge, averaging 19.8 points per game. He returned to the Cavaliers on a two-way deal this summer while reportedly gaining 35 pounds in preparation for a breakout year.
The Cavaliers play their first preseason game tomorrow against the Chicago Bulls. Cleveland’s regular season begins on October 23rd at Toronto.
