Top-150 prospect Jake West drops top five schools, gives thoughts on his finalists

By SAM LANCE

Class of 2025 four-star guard Jake West is down to five schools: Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Florida, Northwestern and VCU.

West — 6-foot-3, 165-pound guard from William Penn Charter (PA) and the Team Final Nike EYBL AAU program — has visited all of his finalists besides Florida. He gave his thoughts on each option to ZAGSBLOG:

Charlotte: “I think just the playing style is really cool, fits me really well. The coaches were really invested in me, which is good.”

Coastal Carolina: “Coastal Carolina is special. Their coaches are awesome. They’ve really been onto me. I think they’ve done like two or three home visits so far. So it’s awesome to see that they are really invested in me. And it’s a great area so it’s awesome.”

Florida: “I’m in talks with Florida [for a visit] but it’s not completely set yet.”

Northwestern: “It was awesome. I think I really connected with the coaching staff and players, which is cool. I have good relationships with the players and it’s high level basketball, the Big 10. It’s an awesome opportunity.”

VCU: “I think the good thing about them is they are really basketball oriented, like the school. The school is really big on basketball, which is important to me.”

West will announce sometime next week, per his Instagram.

This summer with Team Final, West averaged 14.1 points and 4.0 assists over 15 games. He was invited to the SLAM High School event at Rucker Park as well. There, he competed in the dunk contest and the SLAM game.

“It was awesome,” West said. “I’ve been watching that since I was a kid, so the opportunity to play in that was awesome. Good atmosphere. Was good to play with some of the top players and show I could compete on that level.”

West is entering his senior season at Penn Charter and has his eyes on a state title.

“I have to be a leader,” West said. “I’m a point guard and I’m a senior, so I have to be a leader of this team. We have five returning juniors back so we’re excited.”
