Maxie is ‘Drag Race Philippines’ season 3 winner
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines’ next drag superstar has been crowned! Maxie beat 10 other queens to win season 3 of Drag Race Philippines. Her winning moment was announced during the show’s grand finale on Wednesday, October 9.
During the finale, the top four contestants — Angel, Khianna, Maxie, and Tita Baby — walked in three “Grand Finale Extravaganza” looks. The finale runway themes were: First Time’s A Charm, Art Attack Extravaganza, and Come In Your Best Drag.
The queens would move on to perform their talent show performances to their own original songs as part of the “GRAND T.I.T.E. (TOTALLY IMPRESSIVE TALENT EXTRAVAGANZA!)”
Maxie performed her original song “Laban” live on the Drag Race Philippines main stage. The song’s lyrics allude to raising one’s flag as part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Following her performance, Maxie shared that she joined the competition to “complete her drag fantasy” after falling short of winning season 2 of the drag singing competition Queen of the Universe, where she placed fifth.
“Gusto kong maalala niyong lahat na kahit anong pagsubok, kahit ilang beses tayong matalo, kahit ilang beses akong natalo sa kompetisyon, nandito ako, nasa Top 4, lumalaban. At kung meron kang pangarap, huwag kang mapapagod lumaban para sa ganoon,” she said.
(I want everyone to remember that no matter the challenges, no matter how many times we fail, how many times I failed in competitions, I’m still here fighting in the top 4. And if you have a dream don’t get tired fighting for it.)
Khianna and Maxie were left as the top two contestants and faced off in a final lip sync of Angeline Quinto and Regine Velasquez’s “Lipad ng Pangarap.”
The last moments of the lip sync stood out as Maxie gave a prop crown to her sister Angel while waving a trans flag — a culmination of the siblings’ journey in the whole season.
Maxie won three maxi challenges during the season, notably the “Dapat Pakak” girl group, Pao Presents Plus show, and “Super Queen” makeover challenges. She became the first Drag Race Philippines contestant to win three Ru badges in one season.
Maxie will receive P1,000,000, a year’s supply of Anastacia Beverly Hills cosmetics, a crown, and a scepter. She will succeed Precious Paula Nicole and Captivating Katkat.
Meanwhile, Versex, who is the first out queen for season 3, was named Miss Congeniality.
The third season of Drag Race Philippines premiered on August 7. The rest of the queens who participated in the season are Yudipota, J Quinn, John Fedellaga, Popstar Bench, Myx Chanel, and Zymba Ding. – Rappler.com
