People are only just realising how to use the hole on the end of your saucepan – and it’s not just to hang it up
WHETHER you’re a self-described chef or can only fry an egg, you probably don’t know the reason why your pot handles have a hole on the end.
While you may think it’s just for hanging up your cookware, there’s a second lesser known use for the feature.
In a viral video, the TikTok account Cookist Wow (@cookistwow) revealed the hidden function.
The host of the video demonstrated the simple life hack for their audience.
“Have you ever wondered why there’s a hole in the handle of your pot?” the cooking experts asked their followers in the clip’s caption.
The woman began by sautéing red peppers on her frying pan with a wooden spoon.
When she had finished stirring the vegetable, she placed the handle of her wooden spoon in the hole.
“It’s there to hold ladles and spoons, and all those tools you use when you cook, so you always have a support ready and you don’t have to look around the kitchen for it,” the pros explained.
The woman made sure to place the spoon in at an angle so that it remain propped upright.
After removing the frying pan from the heat, she demonstrated the handy trick again.
The cooking experts prompted their online audience to try out the hack.
They asked their followers if they knew about the saucepan handle’s hidden use.
TikTok users shared their thoughts on the hack in the comments section.
“That’s so clever,” wrote one impressed viewer.
However, not everyone was so keen on the tip.
“No, that’s to hang the pan up. Why stand a messy spoon upright so it’ll all run down the handle??” asked another follower.
“Or you can just lay it on the side of the pan like normal people do,” suggested a third person.
More things people are only just realising...
“That’s utterly and clearly wrong,” commented another TikTok user.
“It will be dripping where it shouldn’t!!” pointed out another follower.
One viewer said that they were already aware of the hack, saying: “I always do that.”
“I understand that it was patented like this but unfortunately I don’t like it because it drips onto the handle of the spoon,” said another commenter.
“It’s useful because if you swallow it there is a hole to breathe,” joked one person.
