Trump seeks to become 'new age founding father' — of dictatorship: analyst

White House correspondent April Ryan sounded the alarm on a possible second Donald Trump term, suggesting Wednesday that the former president “wants to be the new age founding father of dictatorship” — and pass the presidency on to Donald Trump Jr. “or whomever he chooses.”

“Every piece of life that we see today will be totally different,” Ryan said on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” on Wednesday afternoon. “We will – all of us – will be affected by what happens at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue if Donald Trump becomes president and carries out the dictatorship as he says he will. Believe him when he says things.”

The stark warnings from the longtime White House correspondent came during a panel discussion revolving around Tom Nichols’ new cover story in “The Atlantic” suggesting that Trump “is the tyrant George Washington feared.”

“Washington was stoic, a man of principle, a man of integrity and knew that the country needed to be able to survive without him,” Nichols told host Nicole Wallace. “And Washington left and left us with these institutions. Trump treats all of them like they’re his property and that they’re his to use against his enemies as soon as he can scrabble his way back into the Oval Office.”

Ryan added that Trump has “never ever” followed rules, he’s always crossed the line.”

“Donald Trump wants to be the new age founding father of dictatorship,” she said. “He will not leave. He will give it to an heir. It could be Donald Jr. or whomever he chooses.”

“So, what do you do in this moment?" Ryan continued. "You have to really take a look, a hard look, if you say you're a patriot, being a patriot is following the Constitution, following what George Washington put in place, Thomas Jefferson, all of the founding fathers of this nation.”
