Father prefers compensation

It was blows instead of birthday cake and greetings when a son stabbed his father, over the use of a microwave, on the birth date they shared eight years ago.

But despite the bad blood, father and complainant Clyton Olton said he did not want his son Clifton Wilfred Carter to go to prison.

“I’m thinking of compensation ’cause him being lock up is of no use to me,” Olton told the No. 4 Supreme Court yesterday.

Carter, of Sunbury Land, St Philip, had pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Olton on July 17, 2016.

He had denied he wounded Olton with intent on the same date.

He was represented by attorney Simon Clarke, while State Counsel Paul Prescod appeared for the prosecution.

Carter has 17 previous convictions – 13 for burglary, two for possession of cannabis and one each for loitering and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. (HLE)
