Showing at WatchTime New York 2024: Hautlence Sphere Series 2

The Swiss watchmaker Hautlence, best known for its boundary-pushing horological work, will be among the over thirty-five wonderful joining WatchTime New York 2024 next week. Set to take place from Friday, October 18th to Sunday the 20th at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall, the event is a special experience to go hands-on with some of the most rare and important watches of the year.

This year, the Schaffhausen-based Hautlence will be among our great list of participating brands to present the Sphere Series 2. The watch follows-up on the success of the first Sphere model, taking that original expectation defying design and executing it in a new more monochromatic tone.

On the wrist, the Sphere Series 2 measures 43.0mm by 50.8mm with a thickness of 15.6mm, being executed in steel with a combination of brushed and polished finishes. Distinct in its proportions, the watch makes use of the signature tv-shaped design that was first seen in the first edition of the Sphere. The shape in combination with the smart finishing techniques used emphasize the futuristic and technical aesthetic of the watch, while a rubber strap and 100m water resistance adds to its wearability.

At the heart of the Sphere Series 2 is Hautlence’s signature spherical display, produced in a multi-layer fashion with a focused use of frosted finishing for accenting. The sphere, positioned prominently on the dial, revolves as the hours pass, showcasing a three-dimensional representation of jumping hours unlike much else. A retrograde minutes counter on the right side of the display rounds out the timekeeping, with each of the digits being highly visible via the use of 3D Globolight lume.

Powering the Hautlence Sphere Series 2 is the Hautlence Caliber A80. The hand-wound movement is impressive not only in its ability to power the unique timekeeping display of the watch, but further in its refined finishing, visible both via the partial skeletonization on the dial side and via the sapphire exhibition on the caseback. The movement features a 72-hour power reserve with a frequency of 21,600 vph.

The Hautlence Sphere Series 2 is available now in a limited series of 28 pieces, with pricing marked at 69,000 CHF, or about $80,200 USD at the time of writing.
