Ryan Mason makes big decision on his Spurs future amid Anderlecht talks

Ryan Mason has made a decision on his Tottenham future after entering into talks with Anderlecht about their vacant manager position.

It was reported earlier this week that Ryan Mason was approached about the recently-vacated managerial role at RSC Anderlecht.

The Belgian giants parted ways with Brian Riemer in September and have been looking for a long-term successor ever since, with David Hubert filling in as caretaker.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that Tottenham coach, Ryan Mason, had been chosen as the top candidate to take over in Belgium.

He tweeted: “Ryan Mason is the young coach chosen by RSC Anderlecht to be Brian Riemer’s successor. As told last Friday, the English coach has been warned [that the club] wanted David Hubert to stay in the first team group.”

However, despite the approach from Anderlecht, Mason is reportedly set to remain at Tottenham for the time being. This comes after the former Spurs midfielder engaged in talks with the Belgian club.

Football London report that Mason discussed the role with Anderlecht over the past few days, but both parties came to the mutual decision that the ‘timing isn’t right.’

The report added that Mason is ‘thoroughly enjoying being part of Ange Postecoglou’s project at Tottenham’ and will now continue his normal role in North London.

Only a matter of time for Ryan

The timing may not be right at the moment, but it will be eventually for Ryan Mason. I assume he was not overly keen on taking over part-way through the season, but I fully expect him to leave Spurs next summer.

Mason is definitely ready for his first senior management position after a good number of years coaching at Tottenham – not to mention his experience as Spurs’ two-time caretaker manager. Postecoglou will likely be looking for someone to take over Mason’s position for next season.
