Middle East to dominate Med9 summit working lunch in Paphos
The crisis in the Middle East will dominate discussions at the working lunch to precede the 11th summit of Mediterranean EU member states ‘Med9’, which begins on Friday in Paphos.
King of Jordan Abdullah II and president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen have been invited to the summit.
Bilateral meetings will precede the summit, which will be held in two parts. The first will focus on the relations of the EU and Jordan and the second will discuss Mediterranean priorities regarding the new institutional cycle of the EU.
On Friday afternoon, the heads of state and government will give a joint press conference.
On Thursday afternoon, President Nikos Christodoulides will be visiting Paphos’ coastal front with von der Leyen.
The Med9 group comprises Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain.
The summit is being held in the framework of Cyprus’ Med9 presidency for 2024.
