Weekend Watch: Art from the Streets helps unhoused, at-risk individuals through art programs

AUSTIN (KXAN)-- Art lovers across Austin are in for a treat this weekend, learn how a local organization encourages the community experiencing homelessness to express themselves through art.

Art from the Streets is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and offer a safe space to Austin's homeless and at-risk community. They empower these individuals to dig deep into their creativity through art and generate income through sales.

"For 31 years, Art From the Streets has been a beacon of creativity and hope for Austin’s unhoused and at-risk community,” said Kelley Worden, Executive Director of Art From the Streets.

Oct. 12 and 13, AFTS is hosting its 32nd annual 'Show and Sale.' The event will be hosted at Blue Genie Art Bazaar from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., where unhoused and at-risk artists will display and sell their artwork to the community.

“Our Annual Show and Sale is more than just an art exhibition — it’s a powerful demonstration of how artistic expression can transform lives. By providing a platform for these talented individuals to showcase and sell their work," said Worden.

This event is free to the public, those who cannot attend are encouraged to help these artists by donating, volunteering or even purchasing items from the artists' Amazon Wishlist.
