Butcher shop serving fresh-cut pork and beef opens inside North Market

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- North Market's newest vendor is a butcher shop offering fresh-cut pork and beef daily.

Macelleria North Market Butchery opened Thursday. The shop is owned by Phillip Clary, who has an extensive culinary background and runs the Macelleria East Side Butchery in Bexley.

Ian Holmes, owner of the North Market eateries COLO Seafood and Oyster Bar as well as COLO Burger Bar, is partnering with Clary on the new butchery. Both COLO shops are a staple of the food hall, the North Market said in September.

Fresh pork and beef will be cut daily at Macelleria's North Market location. It will also serve an expanded product list that includes chicken, lamb, house-made Bolognese and more. COLO will collaborate with the butchery to offer a seafood subscription box. Clary will also host a chef-driven pop-up dinner concept will at his North Market spot later this month.

The butcher shop will be open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at North Market, which is Downtown on Park Street. Eventually, those hours are expected to be expanded.

Marlow's Cheesesteaks is set to open inside North Market in the next few weeks. Recently, Littleton's Market Bakery, which is run by a former Food Network guest, opened a vendor in the food hall as well.

Construction is still underway on the site of the former North Market parking lot. An expansion of the food hall in addition to a 32-story tower with hotel, residential and office space will be built in its place.
