PC gamers in shock as hugely popular strategy game disappears from online stores

MORE and more gamers are worried about the preservation of video games as multiple games have been taken offline despite their popularity.

The most famous example is The Crew, which was removed from people’s consoles, even if they owned it, earlier this year.

It was recently announced that LittleBigPlanet 3 would go offline and no longer be purchasable, and now another game is going down.

Without warning, Age of Empires 3 has been delisted from online storefronts starting today, October 10, 2024.

The acclaimed strategy series has been running for decades, and it is considered one of the best in the genre.

Not only this, but Microsoft will end support for the online multiplayer from October 30, 2024.

The company claims that the decision was made “due to the technology no longer being supported.”

If you already own Age of Empires 3, you will still be able to play the game’s offline modes like campaigns and skirmishes.

Even if you don’t have the game downloaded to your computer, as long as you own it, you can download it at any time.

Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition is still available on online storefronts, so if you are eager for some multiplayer action, this is the version you’ll want to buy.

You can even try out the Definitive Edition for free on Steam before you decide if you want to purchase it or not.

Age of Empires 2, arguably the most popular game in the series, also has a Definitive Edition, and it is highly praised by fans as the optimal version to play.

Similarly, Age of Empire 3’s Definitive Edition is a faithful modernisation of the original game, with numerous visual and approachability improvements as well as new content.

The engine for the recently released Age of Mythology: Retold, is the same one used in Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition, ensuring it’s a modern update.

Age of Empires 3 was initially seen as the outcast of the series, though opinions on the gunpowder combat-focused game have softened over the years.

Those who are fans of the series will find plenty to enjoy in the Definitive Edition of the game.
