I moved full-time into a campervan & saved £1,000s on rent but quickly hit huge stumbling block… I wouldn’t change it

A COUPLE who saved thousands by moving into a campervan have told how they hit a huge stumbling block.

Couple Neil and Emma, who run YouTube channel Urban Vanlife, left normal life behind to take to the road in their self-built van with dogs Poppy, Dolly, Pickle and Raven.

The pair recently had to take part of the van apart after suffering from a condiment spillage in a hard-to-reach drawer[/caption]

But the decision hasn’t come without its challenges.

Recently they battled a challenge after a soy sauce bottle fell over and leaked along the side of two counters.

But the draw was hard to reach, and had to be completely removed so the area could be cleaned properly.

Worse, even though the couple built the units themselves, after the clean they couldn’t figure out how to put it together again.

A caption to the clip on their YouTube channel reads: “Join us on our full-time vanlife adventure as we explore the stunning landscapes of Ireland in our self-built tiny home on wheels.

“This week we come across a few vanlife problems whilst living full time on the road and have to find somewhere to sort out our vanlife DIY issues, so we find a lovely hidden gem campsite in County Roscommon, Willowbrooke Glamping and Hideaways.

“Once we thought we had everything fixed and had put the van back together we start to head to our next adventure but things don’t always go to plan as we encounter another vanlife mishap before leaving the site.”

After finishing off the grubby task, the two quipped that they consider themselves to be clean campervan owners, despite the cluttered counter top.

“To be fair, if our van is this bad, imagine what other people’s are like, Neil said. “Genuinely, can you imagine because we’re clean. You imagine what some people’s vans are like.”

Living in a camper van is a great way to save cash for a house, whilst still having your independence.

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, more and more adults are struggling to get on the property ladder and are choosing to live in their family home for longer.

The 2021 census revealed that over half of people aged 23 and under still live with their parents.

The average price of a house in the UK was £285,000 as of March 2023, and this rises to a whopping £735,254, which is completely unaffordable for many.

Moreover, research from the Resolution Foundation found that the average first time buyer deposit tripled from 5 per cent of the property price in 1989 to 15 per cent in 2019.

This means that buyers have to save for far longer and use up a larger percentage of their earnings to get on the property ladder.

Recent research by property site Zoopla found that 42 per cent of adults under 40 who do not already own homes have given up, due to the astronomical cost of buying a property.

This included 38 per cent of people earning over £60,000 (almost double the average salary for the UK).
