I’m an interior expert – 3 mistakes are making your Christmas decorations look cheap, the tackiness is overwhelming
WITH less than 11 weeks until Christmas, some of us will already be thinking about how to decorate our homes for the holiday.
But before we go pulling out all the festive decor, an expert has warned that three mistakes are making them look cheap.
The placement of your decorations is key[/caption] The decoration on your tree are also important[/caption]Luckily, they have shared their top tips on how we can avoid making our decorations look tacky.
Ryan Calvert, Product Expert at Hiatt Hardware, says: “This year, more people are moving toward sophisticated and minimalist Christmas decor.
“While we want to celebrate the festive season, many are looking to do so in a way that enhances their home’s style rather than overwhelming it.
“These tips will help create a space that feels both festive and elegant, adding a sense of refinement to your holiday celebrations.”
1. Choose a Christmas colour scheme
One of the most important decisions we can make when it comes to Christmas decor is choosing the colour scheme.
If it doesn’t tie in with our current furniture then it automatically makes the decor look cheap and tacky.
While we want to celebrate the festive season, many are looking to do so in a way that enhances their home’s style rather than overwhelming it. These tips will help create a space that feels both festive and elegant
Ryan explains: “It’s important to choose a Christmas colour scheme that complements your existing decor and furniture.
“While traditional festive colours like bright reds and greens can work well, it’s easy to go overboard.
“The great thing about Christmas decorations is that there’s something for every style!
“Whether you’re aiming for a frosty winter wonderland with icy blues and silvers or a cosy, rustic vibe with soft whites and taupes, cohesion is key.
“The right colour scheme can ensure your holiday decor looks intentional, not overwhelming.
“If you’re after a more traditional yet sophisticated Christmas aesthetic, consider sticking to a classic holiday palette.
“Shades like snowy white, rich burgundy, gold, deep green, and subtle metallic accents can bring elegance to your space.
“No matter your choice, be sure to mix and match shades to add depth, otherwise, everything will blend together.”
2. Decide on your focal points
Another important thing to take into account when decorating your home is the location.
Picking the right focal point in a room for specific decorations is key.
Ryan says: “For avid decorators, the decision of where to showcase your holiday decor may be obvious, but if you’re new to Christmas decorating, picking a focal point is a great way to start.
“Whether it’s a Christmas tree by the window, a festive mantelpiece, or a grand entryway, use the space you have to choose the best holiday decor for that area.
“For instance, your fireplace mantle is ideal for hanging stockings and placing festive garlands, while your front door is the perfect spot for a seasonal wreath or twinkling lights.”
'Perfect Christmas presents'
A SAVVY shopper has shared the bargain buys she found in Home Bargains and people say they're perfect for Christmas presents.
Jess Osborne shared the money-saving deal on social media and people were eager to snap up the goodies to put away for Christmas.
Jess spotted the bargain find in Home Bargains and was shocked to see they were just £3.99 despite usually retailing at £50.
She said: “Whind products £3.99 Home Bargains, never used before but (it’s) saying rrp (recommended retail price) is £49.99.”
The beauty fan shared a snap of her two purchases which included the Whind Atlas Pure purifying whipped mask for £3.99
It usually costs £30 for the luxury face mask which contains green clay and Salicylic Acid to help combat oily and combination skin.
But that’s not all, she also picked up the Sahara Silk vanishing cream exfoliator from the brand too.
Jess was able to grab it for £3.99 despite it costing £50 on their site.
The vanishing cream contains pomegranate enzymes, rice bran and rhassoul clay to help draw out impurities and chemically and physically exfoliate the skin.
The post was shared to Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, a private Facebook group with 2.5 million members.
3. Class up your Christmas trees
Having clashing colours on your Christmas tree will instantly make it look tacky, according to experts.
Ryan suggests: “The Christmas tree is the heart of any holiday home, but if you’re worried about it looking too busy, there are plenty of ways to class it up.
“Instead of going all-out with bright, clashing ornaments, consider a more refined approach with ornaments in a unified colour palette like white, gold, or silver.
“For an even more elevated look, try incorporating glass or metallic ornaments.
“Or even choose an artificial tree in a chic, minimalist style, like frosted white or deep green with subtle sparkle.”
