Musicians playing VEGETABLES to perform in London’s West End – using just swedes and potatoes
AN UNUSUAL production is set to make its debut on London’s West End – in which musicians will play instruments made out of vegetables.
The show, named The Farmonic Orchestra, will feature vegetables found in a Cornish pasty, including swedes and potatoes.
It is a collaboration between The London Vegetable Orchestra and pasty maker Ginsters – and will take place at the Other Palace Theatre on November 3.
The band of four classically trained musicians, who create music using instruments made entirely from vegetables, will treat viewers to a 60-minute lunchtime performance using the pasty ingredients.
Patrick Johns, from the London Vegetable Orchestra, said: “Bringing our vegetable instruments to the iconic West End is a dream come true.
“It’s not every day you hear a swede or potato play a melody, and we’re thrilled to share this unforgettable experience with the audience.”
The vegetables are carefully carved moments before showtime to create legitimate musical instruments, including mouthpieces and holes to control their sound.
Sounding remarkably like their brass and wooden counterparts, these instruments will entertain the audience with a range of show-stopping West End anthems, classical tunes, and pop hits.
The performance will also feature Merryn, the passionate farmer from the brand’s most recent TV advert, and a vocal performance from sea shanty musicians, The Monkey Fists.
While the audience will also have the opportunity to try their hand at playing a vegetable instrument.
Sarah Babb, from Ginsters, said: “We put in a lot of effort into making our Cornish Pasties and sourcing the best of British produce, so we think they deserve their time in the spotlight to be appreciated like the stars that they are.
“Merryn goes above and beyond to grow only the best vegetables for us so it’s no surprise her veg also has what it takes to dazzle under the West End lights.
“We’re excited to celebrate the effort that goes into creating great quality food and hope that everyone who comes along will enjoy the show, as well as enjoying a taste of our famous Cornish Pasties.”
Tickets are available online from Other Palace Theatre, with all proceeds donated to The Trussell Trust to help combat food poverty across the UK.
After the matinee performance, all vegetables used will also be donated.
