North West’s Pre-Teen Attitude Is on Full Display in Funny New Interview With Mom Kim Kardashian
She’s a rapper, she’s a cover star, she’s one of the most famous celebrity kids on the planet — but underneath it all, North West is actually just your typical pre-teen. Sure, she’s worth millions and reportedly makes more than the average annual salary with just two TikTok videos. And yes, she’s been famous since she was a baby as the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. None of that affects her classic pre-teen attitude, which was on full display during a recent interview with her mom. It just goes to show that kids will be kids, no matter what opportunities they are afforded in life.
The 11-year-old answered her mom’s questions in a new cover story for Interview Magazine, where her sarcasm, cockiness, and general, don’t-give-a-damn mood was present like a third person. From the beginning, North was joking calling herself “Tyler, the Creator” and “Kanye West,” until her mom called her out with a laugh. “You’re really messing with me, aren’t you?”
North sassily replied, “No. Hey, it’s me, North West.” The joke isn’t funny anymore once your mom tries to join in, is it?
Later, North tells her mom that she watches a Barbie cartoon every night, and Kardashian tries to share a cute tidbit about her daughter. “Fun facts about North: Every night when she falls asleep, she needs the TV on, no matter what,” The Kardashians star said. North immediately replied: “That’s not a fun fact.” Oof!
“Can you tell me a joke?” Kardashian asks her daughter at another point. “What do you mean?” North responds.
“Are there any funny jokes that you tell your cousins, or your friends?” she tried again. North responded, “Well, I make people laugh, but I don’t be like, ‘Duck, duck, goose.’”
They talk about fashion, paparazzi (North threatens to tell invasive photographers, “Yo, I’m going to sue you.”), and school, which North adamantly says, “I do not like.” When her mom pushes, North said she likes her Latin class the most, and Kardashian gives a very mom answer. “Good, because you have a Latin test tomorrow. We’re going to study after this,” Kardashian says before asking her next question: “What’s your favorite song right now?”
Knowing North, her answer was just as sassy as the rest of the interview: “’I Don’t Love You Anymore’ by Tyler, the Creator,” she said. I’m not saying that was her pre-teen way of shading her mom, but I’m not, not saying that.
The interview is full of hilarious moments like this between North and Kardashian, including one point when the 11-year-old points out that Kardashian doesn’t really cook for her kids. “Last time you cooked was two Halloweens ago,” she said. Kids will keep you humble, that’s for sure!
Toward the end, Kardashian asked her daughter what she wants to be when she grows up, and North responded, “I don’t know, because I already do a lot of stuff that I want to be when I grow up. I just want to pursue my careers now.”
This is a huge difference from her first magazine cover, i-D’s Fall/Winter 2023 The New Wave Issue. At that time, she said her style icon was “me” and described herself as “The Best Ever.” During this interview, North was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, and she had several different career paths lined up.
“A basketball player, a rapper, um … Well, when I was seven, I wanted to be a boxer. But now I don’t want to be a boxer,” North said. “I’m going to do art on the side. When I’m, like, 13, I want to walk dogs, to make money to buy art supplies, because everything around here is so expensive. So a rapper, a basketball player, and I’m going to make artwork that I sell. Also, one day I want to own Yeezy and SKIMS, and I want to be a business owner.”
Since then, she’s started recording her first album, acted in Disney’s The Lion King at The Hollywood Bowl, and showed off her budding photography skills. If her pre-teen years are this illustrious, imagine what a teenage North West can accomplish!
