Jewish actor and comedian Jerry Seinfeld cheered for both the New York Mets and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at the Major League Baseball team’s game on Wednesday at Citi Field, where the Mets reached the National League Championship Series with a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The “Seinfeld” co-creator, who is a massive fan of the Mets and outspoken supporter of Israel, was stopped by a fellow Mets fan at the game who asked Seinfeld if he could record a message for his brother in Israel.

“Jerry, my brother is watching from the Gaza border. Can I get a video for him?” the person asked Seinfeld in a recorded video on his phone that has gone viral on social media. “He’s on the Gaza border; he’s staying up at night late to watch. Can I get a video for him?”

Seinfeld then approached the person recording the video and said into the camera lens, “Let’s go IDF!”

Seinfeld has openly expressed support for Israel since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip that began in response to Hamas’s massacre across southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

“I will always stand with Israel and the Jewish people,” he said in an Instagram post after the Hamas terrorist attacks.

Seinfeld lived and worked on a kibbutz in Israel when he was a teenager and visited Israel earlier this year to meet with families impacted by the Oct. 7 attacks. He said the trip was “the most powerful experience of my life.”

Earlier this year, Seinfeld told GQ magazine that one item he could not live without is his Star of David necklace “because it makes me feel closer to the people of Israel.”
