APAPA GH CONDUCTS FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH TO MARK 6OTH ANNIVERSARY
The Apapa General Hospital recently conducted free medical outreach for 1000 school children in Apapa Local Government Area at the facility to mark its 60th anniversary.
Speaking at the free medical outreach, the Medical Director/CEO of the Apapa General Hospital, Dr. Lateefat Omolara Agbaje said Apapa General Hospital started as a Primary Healthcare Centre on the 17th of October, 1964 and later upgraded to a full-fledged General Hospital to cater for the secondary health needs of the people of Apapa and its environs.
According to her, “Through this 60th anniversary, we have decided to give back to the society by inviting school children in Apapa Local Government Area for a free medical outreach with a target of 1000 school children from both primary and secondary schools. With this outreach, children would be sensitised on healthy lifestyle, how to know their health status and take care of their health needs when the need arises”.
Agbaje further said the Lagos State Government has employed medical specialists in various fields to take care of the health needs of the people, emphasising that Health is Wealth. Hence, if people are healthy, they can achieve what they set out to achieve. She added that in ensuring health for all, the Lagos State Government has expanded various hospitals and maintained various healthcare services.
Agbaje also expressed her gratitude to the Lagos State Government, the management and the staff of the hospital for their continued cooperation and support towards the realisation of all set goals and objectives of the hospital, promising to do her best to ensure that the hospital attains a lofty height in quality healthcare delivery to patients in line with international best practices and T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda of the State Government.
She, therefore, commended the hospital management and workforce for a job well done, especially in terms of promptness and professional care of residents whenever they visit the facility for medical services.
The Medical Director equally appreciated the Executive Chairman, Apapa Local Government Hon. Adejumoke Sebanjo and her team for their collaboration in ensuring health for all in Apapa.
In her remarks, the Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Hon. Adejumoke Sebanjo congratulated the Lagos State Government, the Medical Director/CEO of Apapa General Hospital and her team on the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Facility.
Sebanjo appreciated the Medical Director/CEO for using the 60th anniversary of the hospital to give back to society through the free medical outreach for school children in Apapa Local Government and encouraged school children to pay attention to various health talks on hypertension and diabetes, eye and dental care and various back and muscular pains in the body.
While sensitising the school children on their health, Physiotherapist Abolarin Ayodele advised them not to carry too much load on their back as this can cause back and muscular pain.
In the same vein, Therapist Awwal Gbadamosi-Sanni took the children through the care for the teeth, advising them to brush their teeth twice a day, changing their toothbrushes every three months and reducing the intake of sugar in the body.
The high point of the occasion was the inspection of new ophthalmology equipment and various medical checkup stands in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the General Hospital by the Chairman Apapa Local Government.
