I’m a gardening expert & I swear by a 56p hack that you must do THIS MONTH to ensure your lawn grows thicker & greener

A GARDENING expert has urged homeowners to do a 56p hack this October, to make sure your lawn grows back thicker and greener over winter.

Summer is now well and truly behind us, but that doesn’t mean that it’s time to hang up your gardening gloves, as there are still plenty of jobs to be getting on with.

Beer is an unlikely hack that can be used to improve your lawn health[/caption]

After a hot summer, many of us will have noticed that our lawns are looking a bit thin and sparse and in need of some TLC.

And according to Joe’s Lawn Care, leftover beer is an unlikely method you can use to make your grass look thick and green again.

According to the expert, the sugars and yeast in beer help to promote microbial activity, which enriches the soil and encourages thicker growth.

However, he warned that since beer can attract slugs and snails, it’s important to dilute it with water, to reduce the risk of the pesky critters taking over your garden.

You can pick up a can of lager from Aldi for as little as 99p, or just use any dregs you have leftover from parties or BBQs.

To use this method, simply mix together one part beer and one part water.

Pop the mixture into a garden sprayer, a bucket, or a hose, and evenly spread it across the grass.

Throughout the autumn, you should use this method every few weeks, and should see noticeable improvements.

Carbohydrates found in beer act as food for bacteria which breaks down organic matter and releases nutrients into the grass.

The yeast also helps to support the development of healthy soil microbes, which contributes to a more balanced soil ecosystem.

Increased microbial activity helps soil to retain moisture, which allows roots to grow deeper.

This makes grass grow thicker and greener, and it will become more resilient over time.

Although beer can work great as a natural fertiliser, it is important to use it in conjunction with a wider lawn care routine.

How to stop yellow patches on your lawn

STEVEN Bell, Managing Director of Paving Shopper, shared his insights on the true causes of lawn discoloration and how to maintain a lush, green lawn…

1) Sharpen mower blades

2) Prevent fungal disease with nitrogen fertiliser

3) Mow frequently

4) Aerate lawn with a fork

If your lawn is suffering from issues such as compacted soil or poor drainage, beer will not solve these problems.

Consider aerating your lawn using a garden fork and adding compost to solve these issues.
