My boyfriend asked my ex-hubby to move in with us – people say we’re ruining our kid’s life, but it makes perfect sense

A WOMAN has revealed that her boyfriend asked her ex-boyfriend to move into their home.

Mum of two Megan, revealed that friends and family have labelled them “sinners” over the unusual family dynamic, and call her boyfriend Michael and ex-husband Tyler ‘brother husbands’.

The busy mum married Tyler back in 2020, and the duo share two-year-old daughter Ryann.

However, their marriage didn’t work out, and the couple separated in 2023, before Megan met Michael.

Megan and Michael now share a six-week-old son called Juniper, and al five of them live under one roof.

Michael was the first one to suggest that the group all live together, as money was tight for all of them, and having divorced parents was impacting Ryann.

Ryann sometimes gets confused and calls Michael ‘Tyler’ or ‘dad’, but her parents correct her immediately.

However, since Tyler moved into the home, Ryann has become much happier and calmer, as she is glad to have her father around.

“I just get to be closer to my daughter every single day”, Tyler told Truly.

Tyler said he sees his ex-wife and her new boyfriends as “roommates”, but said he had to swallow a lot of pride to move into their home.

“Their had to be a lot of healing, and a lot of personal growth to even consider something like this”, Megan said.

The mum has shared details of her unusual family dynamic online and has been met with backlash from trolls.

People have claimed that they are confusing the children, and are “horrible parents”.

Many people also assume that the trio are in a throuple, which Megan admits is understandable.

“People think we’re ruining Ryann’s life by confusing her”, she said.

“But that’s not the case, she fully understands mum and dad are not together.”

“One of my friends told me I sold my soul for this”, Tyler added.

Different parenting styles explained

There are four recognised styles of parenting explained below:

Authoritarian Parenting

What some might describe as ‘regimental’ or ‘strict parenting.

Parents with this style focus on strict rules, obedience, and discipline.

Authoritarian parents take over the decision-making power, rarely giving children any input in the matter.

When it comes to rules, you believe it’s “my way or the highway.”

Permissive Parenting

Often referred to as ‘soft parenting’ or ‘yes mums/dads’.

Permissive parents are lenient, only stepping in when there’s a serious problem.

They’re quite forgiving and they adopt an attitude of “kids will be kids.”

Oftentimes they act more like friends than authoritative figures.

Authoritative Parenting

Authoritative parents provide their children with rules and boundaries, but they also give them the freedom to make decisions.

With an authoritative parenting style, parents validate their children’s feelings while also making it clear that the adults are ultimately in charge.

They use positive reinforcement techniques, like praise and reward systems, as opposed to harsh punishments.

Neglectful or Uninvolved Parenting

Essentially, neglectful parents ignore their children, who receive little guidance, nurturing, and parental attention.

They don’t set rules or expectations, and they tend to have minimal knowledge about what their children are doing.

Uninvolved parents expect children to raise themselves. They don’t devote much time or energy to meeting children’s basic needs.

Uninvolved parents may be neglectful but it’s not always intentional. A parent with mental health issues or substance abuse problems, for example, may not be able to care for a child’s physical or emotional needs consistently.

Michael and Tyler did not get along at all in the beginning, and it took a very long time for them to even be in the same room with each other.

However, Tyler eventually sucked it up, and the pair are now almost friends.

Although the unconventional living situation works for parenting, Tyler admitted that it has affected his dating life.

“Who would want to live with someone they used to be married to?”, his ex Hannah queried?
