Pakistan to host SCO Summit 2024

Pakistani media have reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit venue.

This two-day summit, chaired for the first time by Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, is scheduled to take place on October 15 and 16.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior has assigned the military the responsibility of securing the SCO summit, and strict security measures have been enforced in Islamabad.

According to reports, Shehbaz Sharif visited the Jinnah Convention Center on Saturday, October 12, where the summit will be held.

The Prime Ministers of China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will attend the SCO summit in Islamabad.

In addition, Iran’s First Vice President and India’s foreign minister, along with special guests, including the Prime Minister of Mongolia as an observer and Turkmenistan’s foreign minister, will participate in the SCO summit in Islamabad.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is often seen as an alternative to the NATO military alliance, dominated by the West.

The federal government of Pakistan has announced that the preparations for the summit are complete. This comes even though insecurity in many parts of Pakistan has risen by over 50% in recent years.

The SCO summit is a significant diplomatic event for Pakistan, reflecting its growing involvement in regional cooperation and multilateral diplomacy. The government’s efforts to ensure tight security underline the importance placed on the summit’s success.

As regional tensions and global power dynamics evolve, the outcomes of this summit may shape future geopolitical alliances and collaborations, particularly between SCO member nations.
