Jaylon Tyson showed how useful his off-ball cutting can be
Cavs news and links for Monday, October 24.
Happy Monday. The Cleveland Cavaliers conclude their preseason schedule this week.
The first sip
Jaylon Tyson may have a tough time cracking the rotation right out of camp, but his ability to find openings for himself off-ball has stood out through two preseason games. You can see why he impressed his teammates with his off-ball movement in training camp.
Tyson caught his defender helping too far inside the arc midway through the first quarter in the preseason game against the Indiana Pacers. He confidentially stepped up and took the three-point shot that was available to him.
Tyson used the range that he showed early on to his advantage at the beginning of the second. His defender overplays the potential of him coming over a screen and taking a three from the same spot. Tyson recognizes this then proceeds to cut back door for an easy two.
It’ll be interesting to see how this ability translates to when he’s operating alongside more skilled players. Tyson has played mostly with camp invitees and the two-way players in his first two preseason showings. Theoretically, it should be easier to find chances to score like this if he’s with more talented teammates.
