Queen’s Park 0 Aberdeen 2

Queen’s Park lost at home to Aberdeen despite a hard-fought and promising performance from The Spiders at Ochilview Park.

Craig Joyce made three changes to the line-up following the side’s Sky Sports Cup exit to Hibernian two weeks ago with Morgan Hay, Nicole Cairney and Chloe Muir in the starting eleven in place of Murron Cunningham, Abby Callaghan and Millie Paton. New signing Lia Tweedie was included in the squad after her deadline day loan switch from Hibernian.

Aberdeen’s Darcie Miller had the first chance of the game but her cross was fired across the face of the goal, finding no one in the middle, before going out at the other end.

Queen’s Park had their first opportunity minutes later when Ami Robertson picked up the ball in a dangerous position before laying it off to Jordan McLintock. Unfortunately for The Spiders, there was too much on the return pass and Aberdeen regained possession.

Another chance arose for The Spiders in the form of a set piece as Chloe Muir was fouled as she looked to drive the ball through from the midfield. Hannah Cunningham’s free-kick found the head of Emma Craig but the header went just off target.

The hosts continued on the front foot as Olivia King did well to make a break down the right-hand side at pace before laying it off to Robertson but her shot was saved well by the Megan Sidey.

Aberdeen looked to counter immediately but Miller’s shot was driven past the post.

Olivia King made another great run into the danger area but this time her run was ended by a well-timed interception.

The Dons looked to threaten on the back of this after gaining the first corner of the match with Niamh Noble playing it short to Hannah Innes. Innes managed to cross a great ball over to Emily Kraft but her shot was well saved by Lauren McGregor.

Aberdeen broke the deadlock with 27 minutes on the clock; Hannah Stewart picked up possession in a promising position before bringing it forward into the penalty area and lobbing it over the head of McGregor and into the net.

The Spiders looked to respond a few minutes later with Chloe Muir looking dangerous from a corner but her cross-turned-shot was tipped away by Megan Sidey. Muir threatened from another corner – this time finding the head of Ciara Bonner who headed just off target.

The visitors looked to extend their lead, minutes before they eventually did, as Emily Craft picked up possession before Jordan McLintock made a great last-ditch tackle to prevent her.

However, as the half looked ready to come to its conclusion at 1-0; Emily Kraft tapped home from a corner to give her side a two goal buffer going into the break.

Half Time: Queen’s Park 0-2 Aberdeen

Aberdeen also had the first chance of the second half but Lauren McGregor was outstretched and able to save Hannah Innes’ shot from distance.

The hour-mark came with a double change for Craig Joyce that saw Lia Tweedie come on for her second Queen’s Park debut.

Eva Thomson looked to extend her side’s lead with a dangerous run down the right-hand side but maintained pressure from Chloe Muir prevented her from getting a cross into the box.

Queen’s Park looked threatening again thanks to a fantastic ball from Olivia King that found the on-running Charlize McFayden who managed to control the ball well before chipping the keeper. Agonisingly, her shot rose up to hit off the crossbar. McFayden picked up the rebound and her second shot was driven narrowly wide across the face of the goal.

Aberdeen had the perfect chance to take the sting out of The Spiders constant threat with a well-timed run in behind the defence but the shot was fired up and over.

Lia Tweedie came close to scoring twice on her return to Queen’s Park but her close range effort was saved well by the keeper. King made another great run towards goal but she ran out of space before she could square it across to a waiting Tweedie on the penalty spot.

The last chance of the game fell for Aberdeen as Hannah Innes got on the end of a pass but her point blank shot was well-saved by Lauren McGregor.
