Bergvall withdrawal a precaution only

With his international career just starting to blossom, Lucas Bergvall will be highly frustrated at the fact he has had to pull out of the Sweden squad this week, causing him to miss the 3-0 win over Estonia on Monday night.

Bergvall was an unused substitute for the draw against Slovakia last week and then, on Monday, Sweden’s FA (via FotbollDirekt), released a statement announcing the young midfielder had suffered a ‘minor injury’ and had left the squad.

The latest on the situation comes once again from FotbollDirekt, who can reveal Bergvall’s withdrawal from international duty was simply a precautionary measure and it should not be a major issue.

However, it is thought this has been an ongoing problem for Bergvall since the Europa League game against Ferencvaros on October 3. The 18-year-old then felt a strain in his calf during training with Sweden during the current international break.

What’s next for Bergvall?

Bergvall will now undergo medical assessments in London ahead of his return to Tottenham. It remains to be seen how long he will be out of action, if at all.

The youngster will likely be looking at the next Europa League tie, against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday October 24, as a game he could get substantial minutes in and hopefully make an impact in.

Consistency is key

While ever he is only playing a sporadic role in Ange Postecoglou‘s team, Bergvall will struggle to gain any momentum. He needs a decent run in the team soon to really establish himself at Tottenham, and as the cup competitions progress, hopefully he will get that.
