Coxsackie-Athens cancels remainder of varsity football season
COXSACKIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District has canceled the remainder of the season's varsity football games. The district said they do not have enough student athletes to meet the minimum participation requirements set by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
In a letter to the school community, the superintendent wrote, "The decision was not made lightly, but the challenges we are facing this year have made it the most responsible course of action for the well being of our student athletes and program."
The coaching staff will provide alternative forms of training to the students for the remainder of the fall season. The district also said it will work on next steps for the program.
