Glens Falls announces $25.5 million tentative budget

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- City officials in Glens Falls have announced a tentative budget of $25.5 million for next year. The city has scheduled a public hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 22, after the budget is presented at the Tuesday, Oct. 15 Common Council meeting.

Council members, staff, and Mayor Bill Collins met 17 times for budget meetings and workshops, cutting $1.5 million from the original budget draft. Residents can bring concerns about the budget until Tuesday, Nov. 26, when public comment closes.

Collins said department heads, the city's budget officer, comptroller, and council members contributed significantly to the budget creation process. He commended the group's joint stewardship of the city's finances.

"With a healthy economic climate, unprecedented development and growth in our downtown, continued strong sales tax numbers and- thanks to careful spending over the last decade- a healthy fund balance; I am confident that the tentative budget we have created is sound," Collins said. "And remember, the process hasn't finished- adjustments can be made as new data and public feedback comes in."
