Family of Lafayette fatal hit-and-run victim wants justice

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The family of 40-year-old Christopher Melancon wants answers after he was killed Saturday night in a hit-and-run incident while riding a bicycle near the intersection of LA-93 and Vatican Street.

Rhonda Melancon, Christopher's aunt, is now caring for his three daughters. His eldest daughter, McKenzie, is pregnant and expecting a baby girl.

"I want to find the person who did this. I want justice for his girls. How can you hit somebody and just leave them on the side of the road? They didn't know if he was dead or alive at the time," Rhonda said.

McKenzie said she wanted to let her father know that she is pregnant. She also hopes to know who struck her father.

Rhonda said the family will always remember Christopher as a fun and loving person who would do anything to help his loved ones.

Rhonda sends a message to the driver of the vehicle.

"Just come forward and let us know what happened if possible. We can overcome this because whoever did it, I'm sure if they have any kind of conscience, they're dealing with this now," Rhonda said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to pay for funeral expenses.
