Pickerington schools employee accused of hiding cell phone in bathroom

VIOLET TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Pickerington Local School District employee has been arrested after he allegedly hid a cell phone in a bathroom at an elementary school.

Edward Dorst, 63, of Baltimore, is accused of allegedly hiding a cell phone in a staff bathroom at Toll Gate Elementary School "with the intent to surreptitiously record other employees without their consent," the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.

Dorst was employed as a custodian at the school, the sheriff's office said.

In a statement, a district spokesperson said Dorst "will not be returning to the building while the investigation is underway."

"Our students and staff's safety and well-being remain our top priority, and we will continue to support law enforcement as the investigation progresses," the spokesperson, Jacqueline Bryant, wrote in the statement.

The sheriff's office said it does not appear at this point that any students were involved or recorded.

Dorst was arrested for multiple counts of voyeurism and taken to Fairfield County Jail.

Anyone with any further information about the case is asked to use the Submit a Tip button on the Fairfield County Sheriff's app or call 740-652-7911.
