North Korea blows up roads and rail lines along border with South Korea

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on Tuesday that North Korea has blown up parts of roads and railway lines along the shared border with South Korea. In response, the South Korean military fired warning shots towards the military demarcation line between the two countries.

South Korean military officials emphasized that the explosions did not damage the southern part of the border.

Last week, Pyongyang declared that it had completely severed shared roads and railway lines and strengthened its forces in the border areas.

South Korea warned that North Korea was preparing for further destruction activities along the border.

Tensions escalated after North Korea accused South Korea of sending spy drones over Pyongyang.

Pyongyang claimed that these drones had scattered numerous anti-North Korean propaganda leaflets, calling the action a major political and military provocation that could lead to armed conflict.

North Korea had previously sent over 260 balloons filled with trash and manure into South Korean airspace last June, a move condemned by Seoul as “vile and dangerous.”
