Project VDP
Project VDP is a minimalist residence located in Loppem, Belgium, designed by vers interieur. This project is a careful renovation of a 1970s villa, where the original architecture has been largely preserved. The key addition to the home is a new beam-like structure placed on top, housing the master bedroom suite. The ground floor, which spans approximately 400 square meters, includes a wing dedicated to the children’s bedrooms and bathroom. A central patio has been integrated to maximize natural light, even reaching into the hallways of the children’s section. Surrounding this patio are the living spaces, which include the living room, relaxation area, kitchen, dining room, and entrance. Designed for a young couple with children, the home was intended to be both spacious and versatile.
The layout allows for distinct zones, each serving a specific function, while maintaining a sense of flow and interaction between the areas. This flexibility ensures that the house can evolve over time, with rooms easily adapted for new purposes as the family’s needs change. The renovation respects the architectural lines of the original structure, with a focus on keeping the spaces open and expansive while still offering a sense of intimacy. Visual perspectives and natural light played a crucial role in achieving this balance. Due to the existing low ceilings, a raised section was introduced with a wooden slatted ceiling, creating a subtle but effective shift in height that adds to the overall experience of the home. Material selection and the interplay of contrasts were handled with restraint, ensuring that the expansive floor plan remained cohesive and inviting without overwhelming the space.
