Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay filming show in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — Culinary legend Gordon Ramsay was spotted filming near the Georgetown Square for a possible episode of "Kitchen Nightmares."

The British celebrity chef may have filmed in October at The Grumpy George, a British pub restaurant. Video shared with KXAN shows Ramsay and a film crew walking near downtown Georgetown.

A filming permit was issued to Table Turn TV, INC for filming between Oct. 6-11 at 114 E. Seventh St., Suite 112, Georgetown, according to the city permit. This is the address for The Grumpy George.

Ramsay’s production company also had an Austin filming permit between Oct. 8-19 at multiple sites.

A casting call from June asked for struggling restaurants in Austin, Houston and New Orleans restaurants to apply for a "major TV network" show with Gordon Ramsay.

KXAN reached out to the restaurant and "Kitchen Nightmares" representatives for more information.

Williamson County Health Department inspection scores show the restaurant has a mixed history of inspections. In January, the restaurant filed a routine inspection with a 54% score for 46 demerits. A follow-up inspection days later showed improvements with a “compliance” result and an 88% rating.

A second follow-up inspection in March earned the restaurant a passing score of 96% with six demerits, according to the Williamson County and Cities Health District.

"Kitchen Nightmares" aired for seven seasons in the U.S. before going on a hiatus in 2014. The show rebooted in 2023, according to People.

The show has featured only one Texas restaurant: the now-closed El Greco in Austin, which was on Guadalupe Street. The episode aired in 2012.
